| Other Info | BLAZING! An Evening of Virtuoso Pieces With guest saxophonist JOE LULLOFF November 20, 2010 @ 8pm and November 21 @ 2pm Saturday's show is at the State Theatre, Bay City Sunday's show is at Rhea Miller Recital Hall, Saginaw Valley State University Some music is written for dancing. Some is written to be sung. Some is written to tell stories and some is written to express an emotion or a belief. And some music is written so that a performer can revel in their ability while knocking the socks off their audience. That's the kind of music we will be playing in November. "Blazing" is a celebration of the joy that musicians get from mastering their instruments. Our program will include a variety of virtuoso favorites played by the orchestra, culminating in the Bijou's first ever performance of Franz Lizst's Les Preludes. You don't know Les Preludes? Don't worry about it—you'll love it. Big tunes, lots of notes, noisy ending. Great stuff. And there will be other pieces, from a variety of Bijou musical styles, including ragtime, jazz and anything else that seems like we would like to play it. Our soloist is saxophonist Joe Lulloff, professor of saxophone at Michigan State University. Equally acclaiamed as a classical and a jazz player, his versatility makes him the perfect choice for a Bijou collaborator. |
